Our Farm

Our family started farming here in Carlton in 1965 alongside the beautiful meandering River Great Ouse, with just a handful of poultry, pigs and cows. By the 1990's, the herd had grown to 100 pedigree Holstein Friesians.

But in 2013, we as a family were increasingly concerned about the high input and high output herd we had become. Food that we should be feeding to the ever spiralling world population, like soya, wheat and palm oil, we felt should not be being fed to our cows. Therefore we made the life changing decision to sell our pedigree herd and bought in 200 cross bred Jersey cows from Ireland.

We made a major commitment to our future in the dairy industry with professionalism, animal welfare and high standards at the heart of our expanding business. Farming has quite rightly become under increasing pressure from the public in 3 main areas; animal welfare, climate change and water quality and we believe our evolving farming system benefits for each of these challenges.

We have gradually planted the farm with multi species leys including chicory, plantain, clover, yarrow and grasses. We are now a free range, pasture fed herd and the quality and taste of our milk is rich and creamy. Just perfect for Ice Cream!
